2024 Great Love Christmas Tree

Trees symbolize strength, individuality, calmness, growth, and the interconnectedness of everything. As we enter the ber-months, we see Christmas trees being put up everywhere to celebrate the season. We launched an eco-friendly Christmas tree-making contest to showcase our students’ creativity and resourcefulness.
A sustainable Christmas tree is an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional trees we see during the holiday season. These trees are made from recyclable materials such as PET bottles, newspapers, cartons, plastic containers, and other items to help reduce environmental impact. Choosing a sustainable Christmas tree is not just about decoration; it’s a conscious statement of ecological stewardship. Each tree embodies creativity and resourcefulness, demonstrating how we can celebrate the joy of the holidays without compromising the health of our planet. This thoughtful choice allows families to enjoy a festive atmosphere while promoting sustainability, making it a meaningful way to honor tradition and ecological responsibility.
Lucia’s grandmother accompanied her on stage to claim their Eco-Warrior Champion certificate and prize for the pre-kindergarten division. Their eco-Christmas tree entry this year is truly a testament to how resourceful we can be by incorporating upcycling. The tree is made from bamboo, candy wrappers, and Lucia’s unused toys.
Gavin’s mother, Mommy Nancy, did not expect to win second place in the pre-kindergarten division. She humbly acknowledged everyone’s efforts and creativity. This marks their second year at Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool, and she is gradually realizing the importance of reducing our carbon footprint in everyday life. Consequently, she used dried leaves for their eco-friendly Christmas tree entry this year.
Months before announcing our Christmas contest this year, Sofie’s grandparents had already been inquiring about this project. They had attended Tzu Chi Preschool for two years and were familiar with the routine. Upon receiving the memo about this year’s contest, her grandparents immediately brainstormed and tested various ideas for executing them. They used poster board, sacks, recycled ribbons from their feng shui items, and glitter to create their tree. More than just crafting a beautiful tree, what truly touched people’s hearts was how the family supported one another in creating this excellent display. In addition to winning the Eco-Warrior Champion for the nursery division, they also received the Eco-Spirit Family award.
It was indeed a close call; we have a tie in the nursery division! AA is tied for the Eco-Warrior Champion in the nursery division! Their tree is made from newspaper. Like other parents, they did not expect to win but were thrilled to receive the award for their daughter.
Let this serve as a platform to showcase our students and each family’s brilliance, creativity, and resourcefulness. We are grateful to the parents for participating in this year’s contest, which embodies our spirit of innovation. Together, we are transforming everyday items that might otherwise be discarded into stunning and imaginative decorations, demonstrating how resourcefulness can elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary.
