Germ-Free is the Way to Be!

This trimester, our Pre-kindergarteners learned about body parts in Mandarin. While mastering new vocabulary was a key focus, teaching our little learners the importance of caring for their bodies was just as essential.

Story of “Just Add Dirt”

One of the best ways to care for our bodies is by bathing or showering. Our little ones were captivated by the whimsical story “Just Add Dirt” by Becky Bravo, where they followed Miguel, a boy who grew vegetables all over his body because he didn’t like to bathe. After listening attentively, our students proudly assured us that they had showered that morning and were confident that no vegetables would be sprouting on them soon!

Role-Play Demonstration

We also had a blast exploring the ‘tools of the trade’ for body care—soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, and toothpaste! In a fun role-playing demonstration, our little ones proudly showed their classmates how to shower, wash their hands, and brush their teeth independently.

Traveling Germs and How to Stop Them from Spreading

Our students enjoyed a fun, hands-on activity to learn how easily germs can spread! In the “Traveling Germs” activity, we used flour as pretend germs and saw firsthand how it spread to classroom furniture, toys, and even to their classmates through handshakes and touch. The activity also emphasized the importance of proper handwashing, as the students discovered that the "germs" were quickly washed away with soap and water.

After experiencing the impact of a global pandemic, it is more essential than ever to teach young children the importance of caring for their bodies. Building these habits early helps prevent the spread of germs and instills lifelong practices promoting health and wellness. By learning and practicing good hygiene, children develop an awareness of their role in protecting their health and those around them.
